The 2010 Festival Fringe

Friday 30th April

6.30pm at the Pavilion Side Stage @ Southend Gardens

  • Ian James
  • Ian plays a hybrid and fascinating mix of Cajun, rock and country. Brought to the Festival Fringe by Swansea M.A.D.

7.30pm at Café Valance, 50 Newton Road

  • Terry Clarke
  • Anglo/Irish Terry Clarke sings like his heart belongs in Sligo, Ireland, and his bones are happiest in Austin, Texas, telling stories about loners, freewheelers and passionate homecomings. His latest work displays subtle jazz/blues influences...

8pm at the Park Inn, 23 Park Street

  • The Ursine Princes
  • The legendary Swansea band including ex-members of Boys from the Hill will try to play restrained, like, seeing as the gig’s in the intimate Park Inn. It’ll work, somehow: they all know what they’re doing!

Saturday 1st May

5pm at the Con Club, 672 Mumbles Road

  • Tom Duggan Trio
  • A cool jazz trio to bring a little musical light into your day.

6.30pm at the Pavilion Side Stage @ Southend Gardens

  • Aggi Thomas
  • Winner of the competition at our sponsor Admiral to showcase the company’s musical talent, singer–songwriter Aggi Thomas was first spotted by Mal Pope and has been writing and performing for nearly a decade. She is now a regular on the local music scene and recently had a hit with ‘Slant’, extensively played on BBC Radio Wales. Aggi is delighted to have been selected to represent Admiral this year. She recently joined the company and is a perfect choice to celebrate the Festival’s Year of Women in Blues and Jazz theme, with her soulful voice and stage presence.

Sunday 2nd May

12 noon at the Pavilion Side Stage @ Southend Gardens

  • The Phoenix
  • There are over 150 male choirs in Wales, but in 2007 some 30 men decided to leave an established choir to start a new journey. They wanted to get away from the traditional male voice choir structure and the old arrangements of well-known songs. Thus the Phoenix was born, with the innovative Siân Pearce as Musical Director. They will be singing jazz numbers: a perfect accompaniment for lunch at the Pavilion restaurant…

Monday 3rd May

6.30pm at the Pavilion Side Stage @ Southend Gardens

  • Kelly Angel
  • Vocalist Kelly Angel is a singer-songwriter with songs based on a humble approach sounding like sweet honey flowing over rocks. Although her music is acoustic, her arrangements go much deeper, culling from folk, soul, rock & pop, with her strong-from-the-heart vocals and dynamic melodies commanding the audience. Brought to the Festival Fringe by Swansea M.A.D.
