Sunday 4th May, 8–8.45pm (Sean Webster set at 9pm), in the Mumbles Conservative Club
Gordon Wride (guitar/dobro and vocals), an original member of The Revelators and an Amman Valley product (from Cwmgors), now lives in Swansea after drifting around Wales for the majority of his life. Gordon's knowledge of blues has brought him to the attention of many international media companies, including a stint with BBC Radio Wales as a presenter for 'The True Blues Show' and working on research. Gordon also runs the international music management business Slim's Blues, which has worked and collaborated with some of the best blues artists who are touring at the moment.
Gordon Wride and The Revelators are constantly touring the UK's and Europe's blues festivals and blues clubs. In 2004–5 Gordon covered the whole UK with Li'l Dave Thompson (USA) and guested with Li'l Dave at the 100 Club London in 2005. In 2007 he once again criss-crossed the UK and Portugal both with his band and as a solo artist. For 2008 The Revelators are already booked into six festivals, including the 3rd International Douro Blues Festival and The Azores Blues Festival.
Gordon Wride has been playing guitar for over twenty years. Ten years ago he decided to throw himself completely into playing slide. The last two decades have been a mission of discovery as he immersed himself in prewar blues, studying the techniques of artists such as Robert Johnson, Son House, Charley Patton, Muddy Water, Elmore James and Howlin' Wolf.
What the critics say:
"[A] vocal delivery which is authentic and a no-frills stripped-back slide technique of old.. a breath of fresh air." 100 Club London Review, September 2005
"It should have been no surprise then to see Wride take the stage armed only with his resonator guitar and slide, but it was certainly the first time I'd seen a resonator in Porto or seen someone give a live performance of classic Delta blues numbers from the likes of Muddy Waters. This being a blues festival, the addition of Wride helped round out the bill by giving the audience a taste of the genre's roots." Tom Watson, Modern Guitar Magazine (USA), reviewing the 2nd International Douro Festival, Porto
